In 2016, author Colleen Hoover published her most famous book, a romance bestseller titled “It Ends With Us.” In August 2024, the book was adapted into a movie, where the main character Lily Bloom seeks to start her own business after college.
In the process, she subdues childhood trauma to start a new chapter of her life in Boston, pursuing her dream of owning a flower shop.
The movie follows Lily’s journey of ending her family’s generational history of domestic abuse. Along the way, lots of drama occurs and of course, she falls in love – leading her to make several difficult decisions. Although the movie is a bit different than the book, the plot and theme remain the same.
There is some controversy about 37-year-old Blake Lively playing a young woman in her early 20s, but other than that, most seem to love the movie! The majority of students agreed that the film was much better than the book, as viewers got to see characters played out in real life.
The movie, “It Ends With Us,” proved to be good overall. Students Kelly Zeman, Jillian Kurland, and Louis Illera expressed that the “music and soundtrack were very well done.”
Compared to the book, Jillian and Louis explained that it was “better than the book” and “a lot less cringy.” Kelly Zeman contrarily said, “Some parts were cringy,” but all movies have some cringy aspect to them.
Adding to the excitement, this movie has some special connections to our own school. Atlas Corrigan, one of Lily’s love interests and childhood friends, is played by Brandon Sklenar, the son of Mr. Feakins, a teacher here at Morris Hills. Sklenar’s steller performance in “It Ends With Us” brought Atlas to life and viewers to tears.
This past August, Mr. Feakins even had the chance to meet some of the cast members at the movie premiere, including Blake Lively.
According to the responses of the Morris Hills students, the movie “It Ends With Us” was much better than the book, presenting great cinematography, beautiful soundtracks, and a story of great love and grief invoking emotion and attention.
Whether you’ve read the book or not, the movie seems to be a popular pick! If you’d like to see “It Ends With Us,” you can purchase it on Apple TV, Amazon Video, or YouTube. The film is also coming to Netflix on December 9th. For those of you who decide to watch the movie, we hope you enjoy it!
