The infamous Block Blast mobile game has become a sensation across Morris Hills High School. Whether they’re bored in class, don’t want to do their work, or just have free time, students gravitate toward the game any chance they get. Although the first version of Block Blast was released worldwide in 2022, it saw a spike in popularity this and last year.
So, what about this game is so appealing? Block Blast is by no means a unique game, so what makes it such a sensation? There are two main answers: it is addicting and everyone is playing it! A few Morris Hills students played Block Blast before their friends joined them, and they would compete against each other for the highest score. Now, Block Blast is booming!
As students’ phone screens are often seen with this game, teachers have noticed the strong grip this entertaining game has. “I can’t say too much in terms of the game itself because I’ve never played, but I do see that it is addictive. My students are addicted to it. I don’t know if it’s a good thing, in some ways, I feel like it’s a mind game so it does make you think which can be good,” said English teacher Mrs. Sanchez. In her Creative Writing class specifically, it has become clear that “Block Buster,” as she calls it, is indeed entertaining and holds the attention of all its players.
Students love the game, often playing to get a new high score and beat friends. Senior Isabella Mejia said, “If you haven’t started, don’t start because you won’t be able to stop.” Morris Hills students have impressive dedication to this game, with junior Sami Shahin’s high score being 65,360. However, very few Block Blast enthusiasts come close to senior Xavier Cruz’s score of 588,000.
So, it’s up to you Morris Hills students: will you fight the Block Blast Boom, or will you be captivated by the legendary game?
