Girl’s Field Hockey Team Improvement
The Lady Knights field hockey team took a significant step forward in their success this past season. Last year’s team won their first game in three years and hoped to build on that success and earn more victories this season. Led by senior captains Hannah Miller, Samantha Rivera, Jessica Tang, and Stacey Tang, the team amassed a 4-15 record, its best season in years. Miller is a returning captain, and has witnessed firsthand the growth of the program. Each captain has experience under her belt, and has utilized this experience to lead a resilient, determined team. Accomplishing that goal was just one indicator of the team’s recent success. As stated by Morris Hills Athletic Director Mr. Haraka, “the growth of the program can be attributed to the hard work and effort that the coaching staff and returning players have put in to promote the team and recruit students from within the school. Head Coach Fasano, along with her assistant coaches, Coach Lips and Coach Camayo, have made playing Field Hockey for Morris Hills a positive and fun experience that more girls want to be a part of.” In turn, the team has experienced an improved quality of play and expectations to be competitive in every game.
Head Coach Fasano has attributed the collective passion of the girls to be a significant factor in the team’s growth. She stated that the team has “learned to have a passion and love for the game and wanted other girls to experience playing a sport them have come to enjoy. They come to practice ready to learn, play, be competitive and have fun.” Countless after-school practices has brought the team closer and taught the athletes to enjoy the hard work. The girls’ passion and hard work exemplifies their devotion to the team. Another important factor is the numerous underclassmen that have contributed to the team’s largest growth in years. These freshman and sophomores have sparked a jolt of energy and excitement to the team. At the culmination of the season, Coach Fasano summarized the success of the season by stating, “With the hard work and dedication from the girls they have really been able to make a name for themselves in the conference and county and have the confidence in themselves that they can succeed.”
