MR. MH Pageant 2019
On Tuesday, November 26th, twelve Morris Hills senior boys competed to earn the coveted title of Mr. Morris Hills in this year’s childhood TV show- themed pageant. The candidates were selected by class vote: Skyler Bowerbank, Nick Carlotti, Khoa Tran, Patrick Hernandez, Eden Perez, Nate Bachelder, Zach Orr, Luke Malatesta, Lucas Novack, Carlos Delgado, and Trevone Green. With help from their two selected managers, each candidate sold baked goods to raise money to donate to Toys for Tots. The boys also practiced their talents and attended several rehearsals to prepare them for the big performance. The judges of this year’s pageant were Homecoming Queen Annie Lin, junior class president Michael Mora, senior class advisor Ms. Yaeger, former Mr. Morris Hills pageant winner Mr. Mein, and Spanish teacher Mrs. Henriques; the show was hosted by senior class officers Kaitlyn Lewars, Jenna Sedita, and Kithmy Wick.
Throughout the night, the boys strutted their stuff in casual clothes, beachwear, and formal attire, answered tv-related questions, showed off their own unique talents, and finished it off with teacher impersonations. Some highlights from the night included an incredible dance performance by Khoa Tran and guest performer Roma Patel, original rap by Skyler Bowerbank, and hilarious misinterpretation of popular song lyrics by Lucas Novack and Nick Carlotti.
Overall, every candidate stood out in his own way and truly demonstrated how much work was put into this special night. Only one person could take home the grand prize, though, and this year that was senior class president Patrick Hernandez. With his comical yet accurate impersonation of physical education teacher Mr. Bell and secret rapping talent, this title was well-earned. Additionally, Nick Carlotti took home the title of “Mr. Congeniality” for his dedication and enthusiastic spirit, as well as being easy to work with during rehearsals. Patrick Hernandez was also crowned Mr. Money, as he raised the most funds for Toys for Tots.
For his win, Patrick commented that he was “honored to represent such an amazing school and student body not only as senior class president, but also as Mr. Morris Hills.” In his words, “It was awesome collaborating with my peers and teachers to present an amazing show” He also added, “Thank you Ms. Yaeger, Mrs. Skutnik, and Mrs. Schwartz for all the time and support you continuously give to the senior class.”
