It’s that time of year again! The Indian Cultural Club is hosting their annual Diwali Dinner on December 8, 2023! This dinner has consistently achieved great success over the years it has been held. A multitude of students attend each year to enjoy Indian music, food, and culture. In addition, the newly inducted board members are eager to contribute to the success of this event!
What is Diwali? Diwali, otherwise known as the Festival of Lights, is a Hindu Festival that celebrates good over evil and the triumph of light over darkness. The name of Diwali is derived from the Sanskrit word deepavali, which means “row of lights.” Accordingly, Hindus light clay lamps or diyas outside or in their homes to illustrate the power of light over darkness. Diwali is generally a time where families come together to enjoy food, exchange gifts, and celebrate using fireworks. This is why the Indian Cultural Club is looking forward to celebrating with people of all cultures at the dinner.
How is the club preparing for the event? Last year, the club utilized a presale ticket option to raise money for catering and decorations. This presale garnered lots of attention as it was five dollars less than the tickets at the door. The club is looking to do another presale closer to the date of the dinner. Additionally, the club will be using the same vendor for the food for easier transportation to the dinner. The board members will also be conducting various fundraisers leading up to the event to raise money for the dinner and other exciting events they hope to plan.
The Indian Cultural Club Board: The Indian Cultural Club board members were elected on Sept 7, 2023. They are actively preparing for the dinner and are eagerly recruiting new members for the club. Vice President Isha Bhatia, who was on the board last year, states that the Diwali Dinner is very well attended and planned effectively. She adds that every year, all attendees thoroughly enjoy themselves. President Saahil Sharma, who has also been a board member for over a year, recommends following the club on Instagram @mhhsicc, as the board will be using the account more to relay important announcements and information. Siddhant Bhansali, Shriya Surti, Prisha Khanna, and Malvika Chainani, the respective freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior representatives are putting in dedicated efforts to enlist new members and attendees to the dinner. President Saahil Sharma, Vice President Isha Bhatia, Secretary Sarath Shayam, and Treasurer Saloni Panchamia are working diligently on plans for the dinner, fundraisers, and upcoming events. Evidently, the board is putting in considerable effort to promise a successful event for all.
Why should you come? The Diwali Dinner is an amazing opportunity for all students looking to enjoy Indian music, food, and culture. The ICC is putting in diligent efforts to ensure a successful and amusing event for all. Furthermore, this event is an exciting occasion to meet new individuals while also interacting with other incredible cultures.
