The highly anticipated annual GT Showcase took place on Friday, Feb. 2 in the school auditorium during Block 4. Led by Ms. Bauer, head of the GT program, the GT Showcase is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their talents with the rest of the school. With 14 outstanding performances, the showcase was an amazing experience.
Planning for the next showcase begins immediately after the previous showcase takes place. From auditions to evening rehearsals, the showcase requires the students participating to be accountable and put in time and effort to deliver the best show possible. Ms. Bauer explained, “We have two purposes. One: we’re here to entertain because the showcase is an opportunity for students who are great performers to have an audience. Two: we’re here to educate.” Through the showcase, students can appreciate the arts and celebrate their talents with their peers.
Carlee Cunha, who is currently doing a GT in Public Speaking, was the host. The first performance was by the Jazz Band, who played “Backatown” by Trombone Shorty. Vishaka Dixit then displayed her gymnastic skills, and afterward, Taylor Hofbauer sang “I Love Play Rehearsal.” Next was a Bollywood dance routine by Liaba Khan, followed by Samantha (Mantha) Goldberg, who played the guitar and performed a song she wrote called “Jealous.” For the next performance, Marcia Arancibia did the introduction in Spanish for Dilyer Veloza, who displayed his talent as a breakdancer. Ruthvik Venkatesan then played the Indian flute and the cast of Matilda showed us a teaser for the Spring Musical. The next performance was by Vennela Kunchala who demonstrated a dance style known as Bollyfusion, and after that, Ivan Gomez sang “Speechless” by Dan + Shay, followed by Nanki Kaur who played the guitar and sang “Happier Than Ever.” Next, was a duet by Linda Nichvoloda and Ms. Santucci. Finally, the last two performances were by Sakshini Ganesh, who danced to “Despacito”, and Synthia Mani, who sang “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston.
The GT Showcase was a huge success, showcasing the incredible talents of our students. The showcase was a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone who played a part in making it happen, from the tech crew to the performers. It is a great example of what can be accomplished when a community comes together to support and celebrate the talents of its students.
