teams to compete against students from 14 other schools in challenging events.
The competition featured five challenges: Walk the Plank, Snell’s Showdown, 2 Slow 2 Furious, A Somewhat Cool Challenge, and Fermi Quiz. Morris Hills’ teams, led by Juniors Timothy Lee and Varun Rameshkumar, were Cosmic Brownies, Schrodinger’s Champs, Gibbs us the W, and Alpha Mu-ers.
Cosmic Brownies, comprised of Aum Shah, Sejal Butala, Krishna Kaushik Panyala, and Arjun Pandey demonstrated exceptional teamwork. They placed first in the Golf Ball Roller Coaster Challenge, second in the Snell’s Law Challenge, and tied for second in the Fermi Quiz, placing first overall in the competition, establishing themselves as the winners of the 2024 Yale Physics Olympics. Their achievement highlights their dedication and knowledge of physics.
Not to be outdone, Schrodinger’s Champs, consisting of Pranav Vanga, Jason Mao, Ishita Banerjee, and Om Dagadgunde, shared the second-place victory in the Fermi Quiz with the Cosmic Brownies.
Their accomplishments did not go unnoticed, as the first-place team went home with medals, gift cards, a book titled The Land of Marvels, and an engraved teapot earned from an experiment using parabolic mirrors to heat the teapot and boil the tea. Both teams that tied in the Fermi Quiz also received Yale Physics Olympics frisbees.
Mr. Maloupis, the Physics Club advisor, emphasizes their achievements and all the hard work that went into making it happen, as he emphasizes that “through unwavering determination and stalwart dedication, members of the Morris Hills Physics Club performed impressively at the prestigious Yale Physics Olympics, showcasing their knowledge and talents.” Overall, the Morris Hills Physics Club’s stellar performance demonstrates its commitment to pushing the boundaries of scientific exploration. Congratulations to all the teams that participated and we hope to see them attend next year!
