After 29 years as a proud Scarlet Knight, Ms. Lugo will conclude her career at Morris Hills as she ventures into the next chapter of her life, retiring from her position as a guidance counselor.
Ms. Lugo joined the Hills family in 1996 as a Spanish teacher before obtaining her bachelor’s degree to become a guidance counselor. Her time at Hills reflects her kindness and dedication to inspiring the next generation of students.
She served as a pillar to guide students on a path to success, creating a lasting legacy that will continue to shape the Morris Hills community.
From fashion shows to restaurant field trips to make-believe skits, Ms. Lugo not only made an impact as a guidance counselor, but she fostered a welcoming environment in the classroom.
“I really love the dynamic with students. That’s my favorite part,” she said. “The paperwork, eh.”
“I love connecting with students, talking to them, helping them, advocating for them. That’s my favorite,” she added. Switching from her career as a Spanish teacher to a guidance counselor, she found joy in connecting with students in a different manner.
During her next chapter, Ms. Lugo plans to spend more time with her family. She also hopes to become involved with Eleventh Hour Rescue, a volunteer organization that protects animals at high-kill shelters. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, skiing, golfing, and adventuring.
Ms. Lugo studied Education and Spanish at Rutgers University, and she later earned her master’s degree in School Counseling at William Patterson University.
“I’m very grateful for this career. I’m so grateful, and I’m so blessed,” she said.
Morris Hills is thankful for all that you’ve done, and the school community will never forget the lasting impact you’ve had on both students and faculty.
