On Feb. 26, the Sara Bauer Art Gallery debuted at Morris Hills, spearheaded by senior Lily Stevenson, Mr. Livigne, and the National Art Honor Society (NAHS).
The gallery, an idea initiated by the NAHS advisor Mr. Livigne, honors Ms. Bauer and her long-lasting impact on Morris Hills’ students and staff. “Ms. Bauer has always been a supportive figure during my time at Morris Hills. I’ve been involved in the Gifted and Talented [GT] program since my sophomore year, which is when I began spending more time with her,” Lily said.
“She was always extremely helpful and kind, even while juggling a multitude of tasks,” she added. Throughout high school, Lily worked closely with Ms. Bauer, the retired GT program coordinator, through Prop Shop and Model Congress.
The process of organizing the gallery began in Oct. 2024. The four-month process involved receiving school permission, obtaining funding, and ordering supplies. The gallery was made possible by Mrs. Niemo and the Morris Hills Regional District Education Association (MHRDEA).
The MHRDEA generously provided community outreach funding for the corkboards used in the gallery.
The gallery features beautiful student artwork, and seeing the hallway’s transformation was the most rewarding part of the process, said Lily.
“Mrs. Bauer has left a lasting impact on me and many of my peers. I’m forever grateful for her guidance and help throughout my time at Morris Hills.”
