Ethos, self-discipline, gratitude, and humility – Brian Murphy delivered these words to the 9th-grade students of Morris Hills High School. They comprised the core message of his powerful presentation on creating a successful mindset. His inspiring story empowers others to strive to be better in their own lives.
Brian Murphy is a motivational speaker who focuses on helping others create a better mindset for themselves. Brought to Morris Hills, his goal for this presentation is to provide strategies for incoming and current freshmen to conquer any challenges they face in school and life in general.
In his presentation, he shares his story about overcoming his obstacles using ethos to become “True Champions of Life.”
Dr. Beck, one of the lead organizers, shares her experience meeting Brian and how his presentation had left an impact on her. “What I find valuable about his presentation is the gratitude piece,” she said.
“I think that’s something that I try to focus on daily and through that I think the universe gives back so I would say gratitude is something that I definitely took away and just sort of reinforced that value.”
She also noticed how invested students were in the talk. “I loved the questions that the students asked at the end of his presentation. I think they were very insightful and inquisitive. I also loved at the end when there was a little extra time before the end of the day [where] students had the opportunity to go up and interact with him,” she added.
Freshman Emily Jamhour said, “It was very inspirational. It was touching to hear his story and I think it will help guide us through challenges in high school and life.”
Just like Dr. Beck, Emily also implements ethos into her life. “I use his steps of self discipline and gratitude to help make decisions now,” she said.
This presentation challenged students to think beyond their mindset and to try and modify it to become the best versions of themselves. All it takes is one powerful message to remind someone what they are capable of and become inspired to chase a goal.
That is what Brian Murphy accomplished, encouraging students to modify their mindset to help them for years to come.
