Celebrating MH 2019 Fall Sports Teams

Boys Cross Country

This year’s boys’ cross country team continued its tradition of excellence with another stellar season. During the dual meet season, the team learned a great deal about racing from Hall of Fame coach Mr. Robinson and were led by junior Dom Wallace and senior Kerrn Reehal. The boys’ hard work resulted in a hard fought 8th place finish at NJAC Championships, soon to be followed with a 7th place finish at counties. At Sectionals, the team earned 2nd place with freshman Albin Mullan taking 9th and junior Akshay Rau taking 10th place. The season culminated with a 13th place finish at groups and Dom Wallace earning All NJAC-National Division First Team honors with Albin Mullan earning an Honorable Mention.

 

Girls Cross Country

The girls’ cross country team enjoyed a successful year led by team captains Aleia Delgado, Deepika Rana, and Carolina Kaczmarek. Junior Aleia Delgado advanced to Groups at Holmdel Park, and each member of the team has improved their times from 20 seconds to a minute. Overall, under the leadership of Coach Mark DiGennaro, the team excelled this past season. Juniors Aleia Delgado and Deepika Rana earned All NJAC-National Division First Team honors, with Melina Turner receiving Second Team honors and Yana Hnatiuk earning an Honorable Mention. 

 

Boys Soccer

Junior captains Alex Cadena Jr. and Brian Osorio led the way for the boys’ soccer team this past season. The team included in numerous, hard-fought tournaments throughout the course of the year. The Morris County Tournament was filled with many highlights, such as the tough defeat against Whippany Park that went to penalty kicks and the huge upset of 3rd seed Randolph in the second round. Overall, the boys played a great season, as juniors Alex Cadena Jr. and Brian Osoria earned First Team for the All NJAC-National Division. Luiz Gonzales and Erick Cortes earned Second Team honors, and Jerry McCarthy was an Honorable Mention. Cadena Jr. also earned an All-State selection to the Group 3 Second Team. 

 

Girls Volleyball

The Lady Knights Volleyball team had another exciting season, led by senior captains Daisy Nguyen and Emily Jackson and junior captain Emily VanHouten. Highlights included winning the Villa Walsh Septemberfest Tournament Championship, All-Conference First Team selections for Daisy Nguyen and Emily Jackson, Second Team selections for Emily Vanhouten and an Honorable Mention for Jackie Newton. In addition, Nguyen and Jackson left their marks on Morris Hills, breaking records as their volleyball careers at Morris Hills came to an end. Nguyen broke the school record for digs in a career with an astonishing 587 career digs, and Jackson holds another school record with a remarkable 433 career kills. The team is sad to see such impactful seasons, but looks forward to a successful season next year, with several returning underclassmen and juniors.  

Girls Field Hockey

This year’s  field hockey team took significant steps forward in its development and amassed four victories. Led by senior captains Hannah Miller, Samantha Rivera, Jessica Tang, and Stacey Tang, the team was much more competitive compared to years past. On the offensive side, sophomore Pia Piazzi earned First Team All-Conference, while Hannah Miller was selected to Second Team All-Conference. Seniors Jessica Tang, Roma Patel, and Samantha Rivera were selected to Second Team Defense, and Erin Wilson was an Honorable Mention.

 

Football

This year’s Scarlet Knights finished with a 5-5 record. The team says goodbye to a strong senior class, led by senior captains Jeremy Busel, Nick Carlotti, Trevone Greene, Dre Moreno, Luke Malatesta, Lucas Novack, and Maria Maddaloni. Junior Joseph Dawson was selected to First Team Offense and had an overall stellar year. The season ended with a loss to the number one seeded Phillipsburg. 

 

Girls Tennis

The Lady Knights enjoyed a solid year that ended with an overall 6-10 record. Senior Leslie Chan and junior Arunima Gupta formed an exceptional duo, and earned First Team all conference for their efforts. Junior Christine Anghel and sophomore Anvita Gadiraju were selected to the Second Team, and senior Kate Wyszkowski earned an honorable mention. The team shows tremendous potential for years ahead, with the JV team ending with a record of 10-2.
