Morris Hills junior Nithin Sivaraman helped brighten up the holiday season for dozens of families through his work with Zooming Thru Music, a student-led nonprofit organization focused on using music and service to give back to the community.
This holiday season, Nithin played a major role in organizing a toy drive for St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson, which led to over 394 toys and books donated in total, worth over $8000. Nithin worked with Mr. Maloupis and other faculty members to spread the word across Morris Hills and the local community, encouraging families and students alike to donate toys and books, turning generosity into a real, tangible impact for families spending their holidays in the hospital. Nithin himself was able to collect donations in books and toys worth over $1000.
The drive was combined with a benefit concert, which turned the often terrifying hospital environment into one full of music, generosity, and kindness. For Nithin, seeing everything come together was a powerful moment, and he reflected that while it is easy to get caught up in the planning, witnessing the joy on the families’ faces was rewarding in an entirely different way and incredibly heartwarming. By unifying his peers and the Morris Hills community under a common cause, Nithin helped demonstrate how student leadership and generosity can genuinely improve people’s lives.
