Girls Basketball
Under the leadership of Head Coach Brian Dillon, the girls basketball team finished the season with an overall record of 13–14. Throughout the winter, the team demonstrated strong teamwork and resilience while competing in a challenging schedule. The season concluded with a 54–41 loss in the first round of the North Jersey Section 1, Group 3 Tournament in Teaneck. Nicole Rivera led Morris Hills with a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Faith Bode contributed 11 rebounds, six points, and five steals. The team’s commitment to improvement and determination on the court made for a competitive and exciting season.
Boys Basketball
Head Coach Andrew Maclay guided the boys basketball team to a strong 17–10 overall record and a 9–3 record in the NJAC National Conference. The team showed consistency on both offense and defense, working together to compete against tough conference opponents. The season concluded with a 45–37 loss to Wayne Valley in the first round of the North Jersey Section 1, Group 3 Tournament. Marcus Petit-Frere led Morris Hills in the game with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Their effort and teamwork throughout the winter highlighted the strength and competitiveness of the program.
Girls Fencing
The girls fencing team had an outstanding season under Head Coach Jack Nugent, finishing with an impressive 17–2 overall record and 13–1 in the state. The team also finished the regular season ranked 6th in the state, demonstrating exceptional skill, discipline, and strategy throughout the year. Their strong season led them to the NJSIAA State Championship Final Round, where they narrowly fell to Columbia High School by a score of 14–13. The team’s dedication, teamwork, and competitive spirit made this one of the program’s most successful seasons.
Boys Fencing
Head Coach Lisa Campi-Sapery led the boys fencing team to a strong 11–4 overall record and 8–2 in the state this winter. The team finished the regular season ranked 9th in the state, demonstrating strong technique and focus in competition throughout the year. The season concluded with a narrow 14–13 loss to Teaneck High School in the first round of the NJSIAA Team Tournament (North, State). Their efforts throughout the season showcased the team’s commitment to both individual improvement and overall team success.
Boys Bowling
The boys bowling team, coached by Stefana Niemo, had an outstanding season with a 16–3 record. Morris Hills went undefeated in conference play, earning first place in the NJAC West, and finished 2nd in the Group 3 Sectional Final. A standout performance came from Evan Nilsen, who bowled a perfect 300 game and an impressive 804 series, highlighting the team’s skill and competitiveness throughout the season. In recognition of the team’s success and leadership, Coach Niemo was named Morris County Coach of the Year. The team’s dedication and strong performances helped make this a memorable and successful winter season for Morris Hills bowling.
Boys Ice Hockey
The boys ice hockey team, led by Head Coach Timothy Kepler, competed with determination throughout the winter season, finishing with an 11–14 overall record and 3–10 in the MCSSIHL Mennen Division. The team made an impressive run in state play, advancing to the semifinal round with victories over Clifton High School and Whippany Park High School. Their season concluded with a 3–1 loss to Mount Olive High School. Senior Brandon Strunck led the team offensively with 34 points. The team’s effort and teamwork helped shape a competitive and exciting season for the program.
Girls Track
Under the leadership of Head Coach Mark DiGennaro, the girls track and field team had a successful winter season marked by strong performances in championship meets. The team began the championship portion of their season by placing 3rd at the Morris County Relays and 3rd at the Sectional Championships, demonstrating their depth and competitiveness across multiple events. A standout moment came when Gianna Ledford captured the Pole Vault title at the Group 3 Championships, becoming just the fourth girl in Morris Hills history to win a Group title. Athletes across the team competed in a wide range of events, including sprints, distance races, relays, and field events, showcasing their dedication and perseverance throughout the season.
Boys Track
The boys track team, coached by Tim Mein, showcased strong performances across multiple events this winter. Athletes competed in sprinting, distance running, relays, and field events, demonstrating both individual talent and team unity. The team had a very successful season, becoming the Morris County Relay Champions and the North I Group III Sectional Champions. At the Morris County Relays, the team won the Distance Medley Relay, the Sprint Medley Relay, and the 4 x 400 relay, highlighting the team’s depth and coordination. Individually, senior Nick Falcone earned the titles of North I Group III Sectional Champion and Group III Champion in the 3200-meter race. The team also had seven athletes qualify for the NJ Meet of Champions, demonstrating the strength and competitiveness of the program. Their dedication and teamwork contributed to an outstanding and successful winter campaign.
Cheerleading
The cheerleading team played an important role in supporting Morris Hills athletics throughout the winter season. Under the guidance of Sarah Pratt, the squad energized crowds at basketball games and other school events with spirited routines and strong teamwork. Their dedication to practice and performance helped boost school spirit and motivate athletes across multiple sports teams. The cheerleaders’ enthusiasm and commitment made them an essential part of the winter sports season.
Girls Wrestling
Head Coach Bryant Wanamaker led the girls wrestling team to an outstanding 19–4 record this season. The team advanced to the NJSIAA Team Championship Final Round, ultimately falling to Jackson Township High School. Standouts included Emelly Diaz Santos, who went 31–3 at the 120-lb weight class and finished as a district finalist, and Daniela Hidalgo, both of whom continue to compete at the regional level. Their skill, determination, and teamwork helped make the program a strong and competitive force this season.
Boys Wrestling
The boys wrestling team, coached by Brian Bollette, finished the season with a 15–9 record. Throughout the winter, wrestlers showed resilience and determination while competing in tough matches against strong opponents. The team made it to the North 2 Group 3 Section Finals, narrowly losing 38–32 to West Essex, and finished 4th in the Morris County Tournament. Standout wrestlers included Frank DiMarzio and Josh Levin, who were County Champions (Josh at 132 lbs, Frank at 190 lbs), Dom Lombardi (2nd at 106 lbs), Ethan Smolinski (3rd at 144 lbs), Andrew Mucci (6th at 138 lbs), and Tylser DiSanto (6th at 175 lbs). Key victories during the season included a 41–27 win over Morris Knolls on Feb 6th, a 35–34 Sectional first-round win over South Plainfield, and a 35–34 Semi-final win over top-seeded Cranford, avenging a 76–0 defeat from last year. This marked the second time in the last five seasons the boys’ team advanced to the State Sectional Finals. The varsity boys will compete in the District Tournament at Morris Knolls on 2/28, with the top three finishers advancing to the Region Tournament at Mt. Olive on 3/6–3/7, and the top four from Region advancing to the State Championships in Atlantic City, 3/12–3/14.
Girls Swimming
The girls swimming team, led by Head Coach Melissa Montoya, competed with determination and strong team spirit throughout the winter season, finishing with an overall record of 0–7. The athletes demonstrated dedication both in the pool and during training, working together to improve their performances across a variety of events including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and relays. The team was supported by a strong group of seniors, including Meghan Watt, Linda Nichvoloda, Grace Daly, Zoey Biddelman, and Charlotte Wietecha, whose leadership and dedication helped guide the team throughout the season. Their commitment and teamwork helped create a competitive and supportive environment for the program.
Boys Swimming
Under the leadership of Head Coach Bruce Campbell, the boys swimming team delivered a season marked by perseverance and steady improvement, finishing the year with a 4–5 record. Competing in a range of individual and relay events, the swimmers consistently pushed themselves to achieve personal bests while contributing to the team’s overall success. One standout performance came from Kareem, who placed in the 200 and 500 events at the County Championships and qualified for the Meet of Champions, which will take place this weekend at GCIT. Next week, the team will attend the All-Conference meeting, recognizing the accomplishments of swimmers across the conference. Through hard work and dedication, the team demonstrated strong sportsmanship and commitment in the pool.
