McClain Clinches Mr. Morris Hills Pageant!
January 7, 2014
On November 26, 2013, eleven seniors competed for the title of Mr. Morris Hills. Joe Bencel, Andrew Clifford, Corey Crevecoeur, Mateo Cuartas, Fed Isaza, Adam Kats, Connor McClain, Andres Nieto, Dominick Sarappa, Joey Sicoli, and Elijah Whelcel prepared for two weeks straight for this show, only to have one winner crowned at the end of the night. This year’s Mr. Morris Hills is Connor McClain. Not only was the pageant a fun and hilarious night, it was a great way to raise money for the senior class. The canshake raised nearly $1,400 dollars for the class treasury and even more was made from the admission paid at the door. This money will be used to pay for expenses of the senior class like the prom, picnic and graduation. With help from senior class advisers, Mrs. Schwartz, Ms. Yaeger, and Mrs. Skutnik, the boys pulled off one fantastic show. The student judges for the show were Junior Class President, Lauryn Sonnenburg, and Homecoming Queen, Melanie Marotta. Others who contributed to the event’s success were Mauricio Caquimbo who designed the posters and program, Corrine Baaklar who worked on lighting and Russell Krutisia, who did the sound. The behind the stage crew consisted of Natalia Byrdak, Theresa Wagner, Grace Hartwig, Kelsey Kuhn, and Ivana Gonzalez. The hosts of the pageant this year were Senior Class Secretary Emily Nieman and Senior Class Treasurer Kimmie Richman. To start off the show, the men came out and danced to an opening mix, split into two distinctive groups. Next was the fashion show with three parts: casual, beach, and formal wear. The guys then got to show off their talents with a talent show as well as another dance. Finally, to close the night, contestants performed a celebrity impersonation of their favorite musical artist. At the end of the night, three winners were announced: Mr. Money for the guy who raised the most money, Mr. Congeniality for the guy who was the best overall to work with, and Mr. Morris Hills who was the overall winner of the night. The crown for Mr. Money was taken home by Connor McClain and Mr. Congeniality was given to Fed Izasa. After the votes were tallied and the contestants showed off their dance moves one more time, Connor McClain was named Mr. Morris Hills. His stellar performance throughout the night, which included a notable “Evolution of Dance” in the talent show, paid off for Connor as he became the winner of Mr. Morris Hills Pageant and received a free prom bid and yearbook.
