FBLA

On February 18 and 19, state qualifiers of the Morris Hills High School FBLA team took a trip to  Atlantic City to participate in their respective business categories. Most competitions consist of a one hundred question multiple choice examination with questions inquiring about the most specific aspects of a particular category. However, some events consist of a ten minute presentation, where students are given a scenario and are asked to discuss how to solve or improve upon the situation provided. This year, the Morris Hills High School FBLA team received numerous individual awards due to the excellent performance of some individuals. Sarah Bang and Teddy Martin placed third  and fourth  respectively in Financial Math; Bobby Lenahan, Michael Creighton, and Rahil Patel placed third in Entrepreneurship; Shalaka Madge and Nithi Kumar placed fourth and fifth respectively in Insurance and Risk Management; and Shalin Mehta placed 5th in Economics. Overall, the 2015-2016 FBLA experience for Morris Hills was a success and it is likely that students will achieve similar success in future years.

DECA

From February 21 to February 23, the state qualifiers of the Morris Hills High School DECA team went to Cherry Hill, NJ to participate in their respective business events. The first half of the competition is a one hundred question multiple choice exam, which tests students’ knowledge on a variety of different business fields. The second half of the competition is designed in a roleplay style. Students will be given ten minutes to prepare a presentation about a specific situation, which they will then present to a judge, or job interviewer, in hopes of successfully landing a job at the created company. Students must discuss a list of important performance indicators, which determine the score of their interview simulation. This year, the Morris Hills High School FBLA team received numerous individual awards due to the excellent performance of some accomplished individuals. Shreyas Agnihotri, Shalin Mehta, and Daniel Zhao all became Finalists in their respective categories (Principles of Marketing for Shalin and Marketing Management for Shreyas and Daniel). Additionally, Shalin Mehta came third place overall in his category, while Daniel Zhao hopped to the top and came in first place in his category. Special congratulations to Cassie Plaistowe for winning a DECA scholarship! Overall, the 2015-2016 DECA experience for Morris Hills was a success.
